Galicia vaccinates more than 30,000 people against influenza and COVID-19 in social health care homes and families

The Ministry of Health has completed the vaccination work for the elderly and disabled people in residences and for the elderly over 80 years old who are immobile. 36,330 people have been vaccinated against influenza and 33,900 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The campaign, coordinated by the Directorate-General of Public Health, will continue on Monday, October 16, with the start of double vaccination of people aged 80 years or older, calling these people through a text message sent to the contact number of the main centres. care, as well as influenza vaccination for girls and boys aged 6 to 59 months, whose families must make an appointment at the health center where the vaccine is administered.

Subsequently, starting from October 26, in addition to continuing to vaccinate at the homes of fixed groups of the same age group, dual vaccination for those aged 70 to 79 will also begin in large venues.

In this way, the timetable for the combined influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaign will continue until all people over 60, pregnant and postpartum women, people under 60 at risk, health and social care centers are covered personnel and those working in essential public services such as national security forces, firefighters or civil defence.

With the cooperation of the population and Galician health personnel, the General Directorate of Public Health aims to maintain the vaccination rates of previous years, so that vaccination rates in Galicia for all age groups are above the national average. According to 2022 influenza coverage data, the proportion of Galician citizens over 75 years old who have been vaccinated is 81.42%, and the Spanish national average is 67.32%.
