Galicia vaccinates more than 30,000 people against influenza and COVID-19 in social health care homes and families

The Ministry of Health has resumed vaccinations for the elderly and disabled people in residences, as well as for those over 80 years old who cannot move outside the home. 36,330 people have received the influenza vaccine and 33,900 people have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The campaign coordinated by the Directorate-General of Public Health will continue on Monday 16 October with the start of double vaccination for those aged 80 years or older, calling them via text message sent to the contact number of the primary care centre, for 6 to 59 Girls and boys as young as 6 months old are vaccinated against influenza, so their families must make an appointment at the health center where the vaccine is administered.

Subsequently, starting from October 26, in addition to continuing to vaccinate migrants in the same group at their homes, dual vaccination will begin in large facilities for groups of between 70 and 79 people.

In this way, the combined influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues to cover all people over 60 years of age, pregnant and postpartum women, people under 60 years of age at risk, staff in health and social care centres, and those in the armed forces and national security People working in essential public services such as the army, firefighters or civil defence.

Thanks to the cooperation of the population and Galician health personnel, the General Directorate of Public Health hopes to maintain the vaccination rate of previous years, which has kept all health indicators in Galicia below the national average. According to 2022 influenza vaccine coverage data, the vaccine coverage rate for Galician citizens over 75 years old is 81.42%, and the Spanish national average is 67.32%.
