DAVIS – A Canada goose found positive for avian influenza was found on private property in Davis, Yolo County announced.
The goose was found earlier this month in an area with several dead and sick birds and tested positive for the virus.
This is the second time in less than a week that a bird in California has been found to be positive for bird flu.

The Eurasian highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 strain has been circulating among wild birds since it was first discovered in the United States in January 2022, particularly among aquatic species, CDFW said.
Infected birds shed the virus in their saliva, mucus and feces. Human infection occurs when the virus enters a person’s eyes, nose, or mouth, or is inhaled by touching something contaminated that then touches the mouth, nose, or eyes.
