George Clooney, Emma Stone and A-listers offer to pay $150 million to end their Hollywood careers
Some of Hollywood’s top stars, such as George Clooney or Scarlett Johansson, have offered to pay up to $150 million over the next three years to the EUA Actors League (SAG-AFTRA, in English) to complete the work they received from them on the 14th numbers. July.
The proposal, reported in a Deadline news story, was made by SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher, who deemed it inconsistent with the collective bargaining agreement the union wants to reach with the studios.
Clooney, Johansson, Emma Stone, Ben Affleck or Tyler Perry, among others, have proposed lifting the contribution limit to Hollywood’s highest-paid stars scheme, currently set at $1 million, to boost pensions and health care benefits. .
The actors estimate that the measure will allow SAG-AFTRA to receive $50 million more per year, or $150 million in three years.
“We proposed eliminating dues limits that would have required the union to pay 50 million a year. Over 150 million in the next three years,” Clooney explained in a statement to Deadline.
The actor added that Hollywood stars felt it was “right” that they pay the union more and that the proposal was a sign that “they are united” and that they wanted to find formulas to close the wage gap.
Drescher welcomed the “generous offer,” but in a video message posted on Instagram, he noted that by law only companies can contribute to employee pensions and health benefits.
