Atlanta, Georgia, USA. – A 7-year-old girl in Georgia has died from complications from the flu. The minor was identified as Khalila Burgess.
The parents of the minor gave WTVM interview In it, they detail how their daughter woke up last Saturday with a fever and how things took a dramatic turn on Halloween, when Halila was seven.
“she says: “I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe”. Her little lips began to turn blue, and so did her fingertips. “Anna Burgess, the girl’s mother, said in an interview with the media.
The mother said that by the time paramedics arrived, it was too late. “They got here very quickly: less than four minutes. But honestly, before they got here, I knew she was gone,” Anna Burgess said.
parents tell WTVM Kalila did not get the flu shot. Now, they’re urging others to watch for any symptoms if their children get sick.
What are the symptoms of influenza?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), flu symptoms include:
- Fever* or feeling feverish/chilled
- cough
- sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- muscle or body pain
- Headache
- fatigue (tiredness)
- Some people may experience vomiting and diarrhea, although this is more common in children than adults.
Flu complications and emergency symptoms
“Most people who get the flu recover in a few days or less than two weeks, but some people develop complications from the flu (such as pneumonia), some of which can be life-threatening,” the CDC says. and result in death.”
Emergency symptoms in children include:
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Lips or face appear blue.
- The ribs contract with each breath.
- chest pain
- Severe muscle pain (child refuses to walk)
- Dehydration (no urine for 8 hours, dry mouth, no tears)
- Not alert or interactive when awake.
- epileptic seizure
- A fever over 104 degrees Fahrenheit that is not controlled by fever-reducing medications.
- Any fever in a child under 12 weeks of age
- Fever or cough gets better, but then comes back or gets worse
- Chronic disease worsens.
Emergency symptoms in adults are:
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen.
- Persistent dizziness, confusion, and inability to wake up.
- epileptic seizure
- Don’t urinate
- severe muscle pain
- Severe weakness or instability
- Fever or cough gets better, but then comes back or gets worse
- Chronic disease worsens.
People who experience these warning signs should seek medical attention immediately.
