The state of Goiás will simulate an avian influenza outbreak to test production control measures and train public and private sector representatives to respond effectively in the event of an avian influenza outbreak in commercial poultry farming. The Agência Goiana de Defesa Agropecuária (Agrodefesa) will be responsible for conducting the exercise, which will take place on September 21 in the municipality of Itabelai.

The simulation will be conducted by state agriculture officials and all veterinarians, with the aim of preparing participants to respond to a possible occurrence of avian influenza according to field contingency plans.

The event will be divided into two parts. The first part, called “Cabinet”, will include presentations on cases and emergencies in the country, including representatives of public entities such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).

The second part will take place in November and will take place in the field, with the support of São Salvador companies that are part of Corpo de Bombeiros, Polícia Militar do Estado de Goiás, Prefeitura de Itaberaí and Agrodefesa nessa ação.

José Ricardo Caixeta Ramos, President of Agrodefesa, stressed the importance of investing in health training and education to ensure coordination of actions and success of results, especially in the elimination of urgent diseases such as avian influenza. The focus is on the relevance of the simulation to allow immediate strategic adjustments in the event of future non-state production records, especially in industrialized farms.
