1908 – Dorando Petri’s Marathon (115 years ago). Italian Dorando Petri was the first man to cross the finish line of the marathon at the London Olympics, but tired and staggering, he was helped by the judges and therefore denied the gold medal in favor of American Johnny Hayes.
