“The project for this residence on the island of Antiparos in Greece is a bit like the impossible,” they say. The main idea was that integrate the building into the landscape, favoring Greek vernacular architecture and using local materials like dry stone. The hotel is located in a rock almost disappears in nature places due to the slope of the earth. Various volumes, together with underground parts, cover a gentle rocky terrain, merging with the landscape and at the same time giving complete confidentiality who lives in the house.
Created for accommodate a large family and a few visiting friends, this holiday villa has an area of seven hundred square meters, with seven bedrooms and was designed to be very sociable. The plan has a geometric shape that emphasizes the coherence of indoor and outdoor spaces. The design of the interior atriums and the use of very large sliding windows create fluidity between inner and outer, connecting different rooms with the surrounding area: “We wanted to create a modern architecture that is in harmony with the landscape. We had to let the light enter the house and fill the image of an open-plan resort, deployed on one level, with an airy circulation of gestures and objects,” Le Berre and Vevo continue.
The central staircase leading to the entrance to the house is built on a self-supporting structure, which gives it a more airy line.
And they add: “When you have a house on the water, magic is a landscape that changes depending on the time of day and season, there is a very contemplative aspect that we wanted to consider and emphasize. This is a home where you don’t have to be active because you are nourished by the surrounding nature. It is the blue of the Aegean, the horizon and all the colors that can be found in the sea and the sky that blend. It’s a wonderful color palette.”
To emphasize this idea of organic weaving, infinity pool over thirty meters long. It merges so well with the landscape that it also almost completely disappears, becoming one with the Aegean Sea. Another problem was to allow light to enter the underground part from above. They were created large vertical cracks in the ceilingto create slicing suns that ripple against the interior walls, creating a scenographic atmosphere. Similarly, by adding planted skylights this created respite between rooms by naturally lighting the rooms.
The infinity pool fits so well into the landscape that it almost disappears, becoming one with the Aegean Sea.
With the exception of the largest master bedroom, the remaining bedrooms are the same size and layout, with the option of two or three beds. Pergolas on the roof, beige stone slabs in the terrace, Cipollino Verde marble in the master bathroom, reminiscent of the sea, smooth concrete in the color of the stucco of the walls and floor of the living room, mixed with in-demand artwork by Greek artists and international designersto make this house a place of dialogue with the territory and its ecological and cultural values, e tell all the love for the island.

“We wanted to bring this choice of material into the home. Everything inside, walls and floor, finished with smooth concrete. We wanted to create architectural manifesto with clean lines, but it merged with the style we are known for, where rounded shapes predominate.” Softness that balances the harshness of the environment. There natural color palette adapts to the environment shades of white, blue and green. The clear lines of the furniture are combined furniture on an individual project duo such as benches, stools and headboards with pieces from local galleries such as Athens-based Carwan and Eleftheria Tseliou. The mineral dimension is very present, especially inuse of marble and stones from Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Portugal and Italy. Each room, including bathrooms, opens onto a terrace. The bathrooms have sliding doors which, once opened, offer full views of the landscape. This is a constant feature of this home, where the boundaries between inside and outside are blurred and the pool visually permeates the living room in a spirit of extreme freedom. The adventure doesn’t end there, as the duo have been given a new mission: to build another house on the same lot, further down to accommodate even more friends.
In the master bathroom, Cipollino Verde marble has subtle shades of green, which are accentuated here by a suggestive trompe-l’œil effect and are reminiscent of the waves of the Aegean Sea. The house has several marbles of different origins.
