Hamas tunnels.. Have they arrived in Sweden?

An Israeli journalist published a video clip of tunnels that he claimed belonged to Hamas and which members of the Israeli army entered, but the video clip does not actually show tunnels belonging to the Palestinian Hamas movement.

Israeli journalist Eddie Cohen published the video clip on his account on the “X” platform, accompanied by a comment that read: “Our soldiers are in Hamas tunnels.”

New York Times visual investigative team correspondent Eric Toler revealed that the tunnels appearing in the Israeli journalist’s footage do not belong to Hamas, but are rather part of an old transmission facility in Sweden.

The American newspaper correspondent attached his tweet to “X” with a link to a documentary published in 2022 on YouTube about Swedish bunkers dating back to the Cold War era.

Hamas fighters, who launched a bloody attack on Israel last month, have built a labyrinth of hidden tunnels, which some say extend across much, if not all, of the Gaza Strip.

The New York Times report indicates that tunnels dug under the Gaza Strip are “passageways under dense residential areas” that allow fighters to move freely, away “from the eyes of the enemy.”

Researchers believe it also contains bunkers to store weapons, food and water, and even command centers and networks large enough to allow vehicles to pass through.

“Ordinary-looking doors and gates serve as disguised entry points, allowing Hamas fighters to depart on missions and then return out of sight,” explains the New York Times, referring to the tunnel openings, which the Israeli army has several times announced targeting.

Israel has long declared that the destruction of the tunnels represents one of its most important objectives in Gaza, along with another linked to the “elimination of Hamas”, after the surprise attack launched by the movement on October 7, which led to the killing of approximately 1,200 people. the majority of whom were civilians, according to Israeli authorities.

According to the Gaza Strip’s Ministry of Health, continuous Israeli shelling since October 7 has resulted in the deaths of more than 11,500 Palestinians, most of them civilians.
