Serena Williams’ former coach Rene Stubbs was delighted to witness Grigor Dimitrov capture his first title on the main tour in six years.

The Bulgarian has been rewarded for playing some of the best tennis on the men’s tour over the past few months. He started the new season with a scintillating display, lifting his first trophy at the 2024 Brisbane International.

Dimitrov had important wins over the likes of Andy Murray, Jordan Thompson and Holger Ruhn. Serena Williams’ former coach Rene Stubbs has praised her recent achievements and expressed delight that Dimitrov has ended his long trophy drought.

Dimitrov finally ended a six-year trophy drought at the Brisbane International. The world No. 14 defeated Dane Holger Rune 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the final.

The 32-year-old has won 10 of his last 11 main-race matches. Dimitrov also reached the final at the 2023 Paris Masters in late October, but failed to get past world number one Novak Djokovic.

Dimitrov celebrated his semi-final win in Brisbane with his parents supporting him in the stands. However, they were unable to accompany him for his final game against Rune due to an early flight.

The Bulgarian hopes to send his parents a photo with the trophy after winning. Dimitrov also thanked his team for their success at the 2024 Brisbane International.

“I want to say thank you to my team. My parents are not here, they had to rush to the airport. It’s a pity they are not here, but it doesn’t matter, I will send them a photo,” Grigor Dimi Troff said at the press conference. Post-game interview.

Dimitrov also talked about his recent plans and looks forward to participating in the 2024 Australian Open in Melbourne.

“I don’t know guys, I’m tired. I’ll take a few days off. But nonetheless, I’m happy to be in Australia and I’ll keep going and move on to the next one. Thank you very much and thank you all again for the support,” he added .

Grigor Dimitrov is one of the best players on the men’s tour right now. He remains undefeated in 2024 and has already captured his first title at the Brisbane International.

The 32-year-old is preparing for the Australian Open, which starts on January 14. His best performance at a hard-court Major to date was the 2017 semifinals.

World number one Novak Djokovic is the defending champion of the event. It will be interesting to see if Dimitrov can use his experience to get past top opponents and progress deep. He reached the third round last year and was knocked out in the second round in 2022 by France’s Benoit Parre.
