The updated version of the biography Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, in which journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand tell the story of the Dukes of Sussex, reveals new details about the Megxit tale. The epilogue from which some fragments have been leaked reveals that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle considered whether they should reveal in their explosive interview the name of the member of the British royal family who made a racist comment about the skin of the couple’s son while the former actress I was pregnant.
According to the book, it was Meghan who finally told Oprah that revealing the individual’s identity would be “very damaging to them.” The updated edition of the book, with that new epilogue included, will be published next week. Harry and Meghan have insisted on numerous occasions that Finding Freedom is not an authorized biography and that they had not offered any cooperation. However, the perpetrators are seen as close to the couple.
The book provides more details or versions of what happened within the palace walls. For example, according to the epilogue, members of the British royal family were “quietly pleased” that Meghan Markle did not travel to Windsor for the funeral of Prince Philip of Edinburgh because they feared that her attendance would “create a spectacle.”
Diana of Wales’ inheritance was key in Harry and Meghan’s first months of economic independence
The epilogue also claims other very personal details about Meghan, such as that she had no idea that the diamond earrings she was given as a wedding gift were from Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi prince accused of ordering the murder of a journalist. The book also states that Harry’s financial situation in the period after declaring himself financially independent from the British crown would not have been so easy without his inheritance from his mother, Princess Diana.
