Jimmy Butler didn’t like that Damian Lillard ended up choosing the Milwaukee Bucks over the Miami Heat. Lillard joined Milwaukee as part of a three-team deal with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns, though he has identified Miami as his preferred destination. As a result, Butler called out the Bucks on social media, accusing them of tampering.
Butler said on Instagram Stories on Wednesday:
“Yo NBA people, y’all need to investigate the Bucks for tampering. Y’all do. I’m just going to put it out there. You didn’t hear it from me, but I heard it from someone.”
His video quickly went viral, with fans reacting to his comments by either accusing him and the Heat of tampering or calling him a “snitch.”
One user even suggested a conspiracy theory that Jimmy Butler is Michael Jordan:
“He is MJ’s son and hate is in his DNA,” the user wrote on Twitter.
Another user wrote: “This guy just went snitching hahahaha.”
One fan posted: “He’s so angry he’s snitching.”
“Y’all haven’t heard from me” – *posts video to millions of followers*,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Brother started snitching,” said another.
Another user tweeted: “Bro, live snitching is crazy.”
“Jimmy Butler, the No. 1 whistleblower in the NBA,” said another.
Another user tweeted: “Jimmy tried to tamper but didn’t succeed so whoever got her must have tampered.”
“This guy has been talking to women for months,” someone else tweeted.
Another user posted: “Heat is the definition of tampering during the Dame sweepstakes lmfao.”
The Miami Heat were considered the favorite to sign Damian Lillard after he requested a trade on July 1. Lillard had listed the Heat as his preferred trade destination, but his request was never approved.
Negotiations between the Heat and Portland Trail Blazers have stalled because the Trail Blazers don’t like what Miami is offering. As a result, the Heat missed an opportunity to acquire the All-Star guard and solidify themselves as title favorites.
They’ll be the first team to win a championship, as Lillard will pair with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to force the Big Three into dominance. However, the Heat and Trail Blazers never reached a deal, and Lillard was traded to the Bucks.
Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, on the Heat’s trade talks with the Trail Blazers (via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald):
“They fought tooth and nail to acquire Dame. It took two people to get the deal done. I appreciate everything Pat (Riley), Andy (Ellisberger) and Mitch (Arison) did to make this happen.”
After the Damian Lillard trade saga ended, Miami reportedly turned its attention to Jrue Holiday, who moved to Portland but will soon be traded again and who the Heat also signed One of his candidates.
