He managed to live for two years on the edge of the cliff he fell on… and that sheep was eventually rescued

Animal welfare charities warned that any rescue of the animal, now called Fiona, would be “extremely complex”.

On the other hand, a group of farmers took the initiative to save Fiona in ancient ways. Cami Wilson, a sheep shearer from Ayrshire, organized the rescue after seeing media reports about the distressed ewe’s plight.

Wilson, presenter of the BBC’s Landward programme, organized the mission with four people, freeing up his own time. Using construction equipment, the team carried Fiona up a steep hill.

Wilson was accompanied in the rescue by other farmers named Graeme Parker, Alice Cousins, Allie Williamson and James Parker.

Found in the cave

While two of them remained at the top to control the crane, the other three, who were lowered 250 meters down the cliff to reach Fiona, found the sheep in a cave.

Wilson touched on how dangerous the mission was in an interview with BBC News:

The only difference between being a hero and being a fool is that we don’t slip up.

While the petition calling for the rescue mission has reached more than 52,000 signatures, Wilson said his determination was partly motivated by misinformation he saw online.

Wilson said unfair comments made towards the farmer of the herd Fiona was separated from prompted him to organize the mission. “Someone was starting to get on their land, and it wasn’t fair,” Wilson said.
Although sheep, which are herd animals, can survive alone, according to scientists, they thrive best among other animals of their kind.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said it knew the sheep had been trapped at the bottom of the cliff for some time, but had been unable to find a safe way to rescue her.

It will just be broken

A spokesman for the charity told the BBC: “The Scottish SPCA was present on the hill this morning after learning that a group of people with climbing experience were trying to descend to rescue stranded sheep.”
