Health departments remember ongoing vaccination campaigns and where vaccinations are being administered

The General Directorate of Public Health conducts various vaccination campaigns against influenza and covid-19, targeting different target groups.

Therefore, as last weekend, in order to facilitate fathers and mothers to accompany their children (6 to 59 months) to receive influenza vaccinations, the health authorities have called together children and girls of this age group so that during Saturday and Sunday they can travel to Laco Hospitals in Luña, Vigo, Santiago, Ourense, Huelín and Obaco de Valdeoras.

Previously, the Sunta Health Department sent text messages to parents of minors in these age groups telling them to make an appointment to receive the flu vaccine, as it is recommended in this age group.

Additionally, it’s important to remember that flu vaccinations for these age groups remain open Monday through Friday in all health districts. However, if you want to be vaccinated within a week, you must make an appointment at the health center or through the Sergas Móvil app.

Special call: 80 years and older

Vaccination for this age group started on October 16 and is usually conducted at primary health centers from Monday to Friday.

However, the Ministry of Health has announced that it will make a special appeal this Sunday (November 26) to those aged 80 or above who have not yet had their flu and Covid-19 vaccinations. In this sense, they will be able to travel to large facilities in their respective health regions and receive doses accordingly.

Self-referring groups with risk conditions

Continuing with the flu and covid-19 vaccinations, since November 16 last year, the health department has been operating a self-booking system for people aged 12 years or above, people with risk conditions, women during pregnancy and postpartum, people for essential services, Cohabitants of high-risk groups, etc. This way, this group can go to large vaccination sites to get vaccinated after making an appointment.

Likewise, people with risk conditions aged between 6 months and 11 years have also been able to receive the vaccine on a self-appointment basis since November 18 last year, although in this case the vaccination will require Hospitals considered for public health network in Galicia.

GALFLU test

Last October, IDIS launched the GALFLU project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health’s General Directorate of Public Health to evaluate the effectiveness of high-burden influenza vaccines in people aged 65 to 79 years.

Therefore, this clinical trial, which will end next Sunday, November 26, has involved more than 59,300 Galicians and is taking place in all areas of health in the community.

The purpose of this groundbreaking study is to evaluate whether a high-dose vaccine is more effective in reducing influenza cases, hospitalizations and related complications in people aged 65 to 79 years than a standard-dose vaccine, which would be administered routinely. Its implementation is a huge challenge, as it is one of the largest studies conducted in Spain.
