Necochea City Health Minister Andrea Perestiuk provided important information in an interview with Radio Maestra and Necocheadigital. The official explained that the decision had been made to restrict access to the breakwater after a case of bird flu was confirmed in the sea lions. While no human infections have been reported so far, he stressed the importance of following current recommendations, such as closing breakwaters and avoiding contact with dead or sick marine animals, as well as birds.
Perestik stressed that various measures are being evaluated over time until the bird flu outbreak is overcome. The municipality has provided all resources to SENASA to control the situation and prevent possible complications. Although the origin of the outbreak has not been definitively determined, it is suspected that migratory animals may have brought the virus from other areas, including infected birds.
The Minister of Health confirmed that, so far, no cases of human infection with the H5N1 virus have been reported in Argentina. He also stressed that if the precautionary measures taken are followed, there is no cause for concern. The reopening of terminals and ongoing restrictions will be reported as information on disease progression is updated.
The situation is being continuously monitored and health authorities are working with other entities to ensure the safety of local residents and animals. Collaboration and monitoring of published guidelines is critical to maintaining public health and biodiversity in the region. Official reports are expected to continue to provide guidance as the situation develops.
