Los Angeles Lakers and Team USA player Austin Reeves spoke after the 113-111 loss to Germany in the 2023 World Cup semifinals and mentioned one of his former teammates in Los Angeles.
“AR15” explained that he’s happy with the success of Toronto Raptors point guard Dennis Schroder, who will play in Sunday’s World Cup gold medal game against Serbia.
“Whenever you see your brother succeed, you’re happy for him…I take my hat off to him. I know how special this moment is for him,” he said.
The German driver scored 17 points and dished out nine assists against the American team without conceding any points. In addition, Reeves scored an important goal with less than a minute left in the game to seal the victory for the team. For his part, “AR15” was one of the best players on the team, scoring 21 points and grabbing 2 rebounds.
The Lakers forward could have played for Team Europe as his grandmother is from Germany and even his brother Spencer Reeves plays for Brosbamberg in Germany, but the forward decided to join Team USA.
Schroder tried to recruit him multiple times during his time with the Lakers but failed to convince one of the top prospects in the country.
