“He’s out for a walk”: the brutal criticism of Lionel Messi after PSG’s defeat in the Champions League

Lionel messi had an opaque performance in the defeat of PSG against Manchester City, for the Champions League and the criticism was immediate. The Argentine had almost no impact on the game and he was seen far below his level in the 2-1 loss to the English team.

The ex-footballer Jamie carragher, now an analyst at CBS Sports, was forceful and pointed out: “PSG will never win the Champions League with Messi, he is out for a walk.”

Carragher explained that it is impossible, in modern football, for a team to win the most demanding tournament in the world with three attackers who contribute very little in the defensive phase.

“I just don’t think there are teams that can carry someone today. We are going to see the four teams among which I think the Champions League winner will come out: Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Bayern Munich. There they do not load any player in the team. They want to load / compensate three (Mbappé, Neymar and Messi). They have no chance of winning the Champions League. Absolutely no chance!“, he pointed.

Carragher advised Mauricio Pochettino to leave PSG

According to the former Liverpool defender, the Parisian team has no chance of winning the Champions League this season and even advised Mauricio Pochettino to accept the proposal to lead Manchester United.

For Carragher, the presence of the trident at PSG, far from being an aid for Pochettino, constitutes an obstacle to their own aspirations to achieve the Champions League title.

Pochettino has to leave the club. If he has the opportunity to go to Manchester United, I would go tomorrow. And it is because of its three stars ”, assured the Englishman.

Paris Saint Germain suffered their first defeat in the Champions League against Manchester City (2-1), which made them say goodbye to the first place in the group. Despite this, the team managed to qualify for the round of 16. Kylian Mbappé was in charge of opening the scoring, but Sterling and Gabriel Jesús turned the score around.

The trident Mbappé, Neymar and Messi was not enough to overcome Pep Guardiola’s team and the criticism was not long in coming.

Carragher also criticized Mbappé

The former defender not only singled out Lionel Messi for the loss to Manchester City. Too was relentless against Kylian Mbappé, the great French jewel.

“It frustrates me to see Mbappe more than anyone else. I can almost understand Messi to a certain extent, he is 34 years old, but Mbappe is 22 years old, he should be running back and coming back to help his teammates against a top team like Manchester City. Walking the field is not for me, “he concluded.

The comparison with other footballers and a ruthless criticism

“When I see Salah and Mané sprinting everywhere. I see De Bruyne, Mahrez, Sterling. Thomas Muller, for Bayern Munich, Lewandowski. I just can’t accept … I don’t care how good they are, if they don’t work for the team”, He indicated.

“And I said the same about Ronaldo, but at least Ronaldo is scoring -many- goals. His goals are making up for that (not a lot of defensive phase work). At this level of football, you have no chances playing like that ”, he concluded.
