Wednesday, June 7 and 15 at 20.55 on Tv2000 – Howard House (Howards End) is a BBC mini-series directed by Hetty MacDonald and based on the novel of the same name by E. M. Forster. This is a remake of the James Ivory film of the same name with Emma Thompson, Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter, created by Kenneth Lonergan and played by Hayley Atwell.

The action takes place at the beginning of the twentieth century, and it touches on very current topics. This is the story of two independent and extraordinary sisters and the men in their lives who are searching for love and deeper meaning as they journey through an ever-changing world. An intriguing misunderstanding, an unexpected visit and a stolen umbrella set in motion a series of events in which the fates of the Schlegels, the Wilcoxes and the Basts intertwine unexpectedly. Margaret Schlegel is an intelligent and idealistic young woman who is courted by conservative Henry Wilcox, an elderly businessman who takes over the Howard House after the unexpected death of his wife, Ruth Wilcox. Meanwhile, Margaret’s young and passionate younger sister, Helen Schlegel, decides to support the cause of Leonard Bast, a young bank clerk who is having problems at work and at home with his partner, Jackie. In the absence of their late parents, it is the loving but treacherous Aunt Julie who tries to keep the girls and Tibby’s brother in a literal and narrow sense.
