Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes: first teaser poster released

There Lionsgate is preparing to release a prequel to its successful franchise based on the young adult novel series of the same name, The Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will arrive in theaters later in the year and will see in the cast Rachel Zegler (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) e Tom Blyth (The Gilded Age). The film has been in development for a long time and fans were wondering when they could get their first look at the film. Now it seems that the studio has decided to release a small preview of the future of the franchise The Hunger Games. Lionsgate has officially revealed the first teaser poster for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

What is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes?

The studio describes the film as follows: “Experience the story of THE HUNGER GAMES, 64 years before Katniss Everdeen offered himself as tribute and decades before that Coriolanus Snow become the tyrannical President of Panem. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his ailing lineage, the once-proud Snow family, who have fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates Panem audiences, Snow sees an opportunity to change their destinies. With everything he’s worked for hanging in the balance, Snow teams up with Lucy Gray to turn the tide in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow embarks on a race against time to survive and reveal whether he will eventually become a songbird or a snake.”

Director Francis Lawrence calls the prequel a love story

“This is a love story,” the director told Vanity Fair Francis Lawrencewho also directed the previous three films by Hunger Games. “It’s a love story set in a different world, in a different era. A very intimate love story”.

While Zegler takes the reins of the franchise from Jennifer Lawrencedirector Francis Lawrence pointed out that the new protagonist is very different from Katniss Everdeen.

“This is not judgmental, but Lucy Gray is the anti-Katniss,” Francis continued. “She IS a musician, a performer, an enchantress… Snow has never met a girl like that.”

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will hit theaters on November 17, 2023.
