The live action of Barbie had a long and complex gestation that passed through the hands of several directors and screenwriters before arriving at Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. After reading the first script, Margot Robbie was convinced that she would never get to make that film.
In short, Robbie does not seem particularly positive despite an excellent first reading of the script. It seems that the actress’ concern was that the script was too good to make it to the big screen. “The first time I read the ‘Barbie’ script, my reaction was, ‘Ah! It’s so beautiful. Too bad it will never see the light of day‘Robbie said. “‘because they’ll never let us make this movie.’ But they did“.
While additional filming of Barbie in Los Angeles seems to be planned, the public has finally obtained the first trailer of this highly anticipated film which, due to its unusual and particular nature, it has had years and years of gestation. Before getting to Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig the project had passed under the lens of many performers (including Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer) and directors before the production actually obtained a pass.
The film will give way to the audience to see different versions of the famous doll by Mattel and Ken. Simu Liu spoke about the representation of diversity in Barbie and how Greta Gerwig was, at the time of the casting, more than aware of the actors she had decided to cast for the film.
