‘If you didn’t mean it, say it publicly’: Isiah Thomas calls for Michael Jordan to publicly apologize

In yet another chapter in the ongoing debate between basketball legends Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas, the latter recently said the former should publicly apologize for his comments on “The Last Dance.”

Thomas made these remarks during an appearance on “The Draymond Green Show” podcast hosted by Draymond Green, where he essentially challenged Jordan to discuss his comments in a documentary that aired several years ago.

When interviewing Thomas, Green asked: “How is your relationship now? Is it possible to save it?” Thomas emphasized: “No, it cannot be saved. This guy went on national TV and international TV and called me a bastard.” “

Someone who was really nice to him. He then apologized that on international television we had no dialogue. You can’t apologize and have a private dinner at the same time. “

He continued, “When you don’t embarrass me publicly, if you don’t mean it. Just say it publicly. Now, if you mean it, just let it stay that way. I’m fine with that.”

This isn’t the first time Thomas has taken a stance against Jordan’s derogatory comments. He has previously said he sought an apology from Jordan, but that has still not been forthcoming.

Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan’s long-standing rivalry

The ongoing rivalry between Michael Jordan and Isiah Thomas dates back to the late 1980s and early 1990s and has sparked a lot of debate. One widely accepted theory ties the origins of the feud to the 1985 All-Star Game, when some believed Thomas devised a plan to “freeze” rookie starter Jordan, who scored just seven points in the game.

While Thomas has always denied the claims, others believe the feud is territorial, as each player has strong ties to Chicago.

Their rivalry escalated further with the Eastern Conference rivalry and selection to the 1992 Dream Team. Thomas remains convinced Jordan influenced the decision to leave him off the team.

The situation was further exacerbated when the Detroit Pistons under Thomas avoided the traditional handshake with the Chicago Bulls after their 1991 playoff defeat.

Jordan also publicly criticized Thomas, particularly during his 2009 Hall of Fame induction speech.

However, despite their differences, both athletes have publicly acknowledged each other’s prowess on the court. Jordan acknowledged Thomas as one of the greatest point guards in history, second only to Magic Johnson.

Likewise, Thomas acknowledged his respect for Jordan’s skills, declaring: “I respect Michael Jordan’s talent. To me, the best point guard of all time is Magic Johnson, followed closely by Isaiah Thomas. As much as I hate him, I respect him and his game.”
