After the release of the digital edition of the film (in Italy it will appear on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 14), many fans have noticed that there are numerous differences from the cinematic version (you can find the full list here). , including smaller cuts, different angles, more refined images, and alternate lines of dialogue.
In an interview with GamesRadar Chris Miller (producer and co-writer) explained the reasons for the existence of several versions of the cartoon:
The film version was made almost two months before the theatrical release, as it needed to be translated into different languages, and it also took time to get a censored visa to Europe. The Sony Pictures Imageworks team still had a few scenes that they thought could be improved for the final cut. So they kept cleaning and improving these things.
In the meantime, some members of the crew—people from the sound department or the animation team—continued to make suggestions and changes. We tried to make the best version. Because it’s a movie about the multiverse, it’s like the multiverse from the movie – that really was the reason for it all. We tried to create the best version that everyone could be proud of.
