The boss looks at him: “No, people say it happened before.” The mafia boss is right. History is primarily told by the victors, and in doing so they adapt, expand, modify, suppress and exalt.

State reason, Machiavelli teaches, precisely because it is associated with higher reason, corresponds to a morality that is different from ordinary morality. State interest comes first; it must be protected even at the cost of truth, if it is useful to the national community. Fine, but who sets the limit that must never be exceeded, how are the criteria of knowledge established, is it right to hide pieces of truth in the face of a tragedy of such magnitude, and, finally, was there really a raison d’etat at stake? ?
History forces us to solve universal human problems, it helps us fight the plague of our time, presentism and fake news, but above all, history serves to defeat oblivion. Without the past there is no idea of the future. Faulkner himself said it in harsh words: the past never dies, nay, it never passed away. But if the narrative of the past is a crooked piece of wood, made up of omissions, half-truths, circus acrobatics, how can you build a future on lies? A society without collective memory has a blurred identity and is weaker. If we cannot tell crucial parts of our story, or we tell them in a way that conceals not a detail but an important event, then the question “who are we really?” it surprises you like a thief in the night.
I am not so naive as to think that everything happens openly in government, but the time has come to define a different canon. We sincerely believe that since January-February 2020, the whole truth has been told about the origin of Covid and its impact.oh, for main economic reasons, haven’t we waited too long to discover the consequences? How many times does the special interest of those who govern at a given moment masquerade under the slogan of statesmanship?
For thousands of years, people have been driven by the same feelings: power, fear, passions.. Thucydides, Napoleon and Inspector Riccardi, created by the genius of De Giovanni, agree. If it is these feelings that define humanity, then it is a mistake to believe that the mind of the state lives in the empyrean and is not dependent on the behavior of people when they sit in the control room. The reason for the state is on a human scale, not to protect the community. Exactly what we don’t need.
