Influenza and Covid-19 Vaccination at Algeciras Market

Next Tuesday, October 17, the Algeciras market will welcome a flu and Covid-19 vaccination site in an effort to bring immunization closer to the local community. The vaccination site does not require an appointment and will be open to users from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., depending on weather conditions.

The initiative is part of a campaign promoted by the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Government of Andalusia to promote access to vaccines and raise awareness of the importance of immunization. The location will be located on Encajes Street at the fairgrounds, turning the market into a key space for health promotion.

Health Commissioner Sabina Quiles stressed the importance of establishing vaccination sites at weekly markets. “This will not only help with access to vaccines, but also raise awareness of the importance of immunity,” he stressed.

The vaccination campaign will begin on Monday, October 16, with a target of administering 2.2 million doses of influenza vaccine and vaccines against new Covid-19 variants. As of October 9, people over the age of 85 have been vaccinated, as well as health and social care staff and residents of homes for the elderly and disabled.

One of the novelties of the campaign is the lowering of the vaccination age from 65 to 60, which will allow more people to be protected against influenza and Covid-19. The Andalusian Health Directorate plans to increase the number of doses by 7.6% compared to the previous event.

The vaccination campaign will be carried out in phases until December, and vaccines have begun to be distributed in health centres. Vaccination appointments can be requested through regular channels to ensure communities have access to this important public health measure. The Algeciras market became a strategic place to promote health and immunity awareness.
