As of the second week of January, 10,757 new influenza cases were reported in the Madrid community, a decrease of 10.44% from the previous week, and the incidence of acute respiratory tract infections (GONNA) also showed a new decrease.

Specifically, according to the latest epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health, the influenza incidence rate in the region during the week of January 8-14 was 159.36 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 177.93 cases per 100,000 inhabitants the previous week. .

In any case, this number is still well above the epidemic threshold of 24.95 set over the past ten seasons, except for 2020/2021, which has almost no cases.

Specifically, in the second week of January, the EDO surveillance system (notifiable diseases system) reported 10,757 cases, a decrease of 1,254 cases from the previous week. This brings the cumulative number of cases in the 2023/2024 season to 48,617.

The cumulative incidence rate in primary care in the second week of January was 143.7 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a decrease of 18.1% from the previous week, with the highest incidence rate in the 0 to 4-year-old group (242.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants) compared with the previous week 220.1).

The cumulative weekly incidence rate of emergency admissions is 8.8 per 100,000 inhabitants (versus 13.4 the previous week), with the highest incidence among people over 80 years of age, at 87 per 100,000 inhabitants (versus 97.7 the previous week).

Throughout the season, 72.2% of confirmed influenza cases in people aged over 80 years seen in primary care were vaccinated, compared with 53.1% of admissions. During this period, a total of five influenza outbreaks were recorded at senior centers and non-senior residences, infecting 47 people.

As far as Covid-19 is concerned, the number of new Covid-19 cases in the region has dropped by 24.2% since the second week of the year, with a total of 860 infections, 275 fewer than seven days ago (1,135 cases). ), a decrease of 24.2%.

This brings the cumulative incidence rate to 121.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on day 14, after the addition of 1,995 new cases among the population over 60 years old, compared with day 7, which marks the manifestation of the virus in a shorter period of time.
