In 1991, Michael Jordan was at the peak of his NBA career. Jordan was named Most Valuable Player after winning 61 games, leading the Chicago Bulls to the NBA Championship.
That same year, Jordan decided to build an estate for basketball royalty. He purchased a seven-acre parcel of land in Highland Park, Illinois. Within four years, the 56,000-square-foot home was completed, including an iron gate emblazoned with the number 23. The home features a cigar room, basketball court, home theater and game room. Outdoors there is an infinity pool, man-made pond, tennis court and putting green.
In 2012, Jordan listed the property for $29 million. Although the price has been reduced several times (listed to date at $14.9 million), the home has yet to be sold and is currently used to house some of Jordan’s team.
But that’s not Jordan’s only home. According to Forbes, the now-retired NBA player has a net worth of $3.1 billion and owns multiple properties in North Carolina, Utah and Florida.
Here are some of Jordan’s other possessions.
Penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan
In 1992, Jordan and his first wife, Juanita Jordan, purchased a penthouse in Chicago for $3 million. The apartment features an open floor plan with a lounge, dining room and media room with humidor overlooking Lake Michigan and the city skyline. The apartment includes four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. There is also a private roof deck.
Although Jordan and Juanita divorced in 2006, she was able to keep the property for eight years before selling it in 2014 for $3.2 million.
Valley Retreat
Jordan also owns a mansion in Park City, Utah. The 9,574-square-foot home is made of stone and wood, with stone walkways and double glass doors. Inside there are five bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and the master suite includes a private balcony overlooking the Wasatch Mountains and Glenwild Golf Club. Jordan listed the vacation home for $7.5 million, but so far there haven’t been any buyers.
Charlotte apartments
Jordan also expanded his real estate portfolio when he became the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets. I purchased two condos in a high-rise building in Uptown Charlotte for $3.15 million. Jordan quickly combined the units to create a 7,000-square-foot apartment with a private elevator.
A place in the sunshine state
In 2010, Jordan purchased three acres of land in the Bear Club community in Jupiter, Florida, for $4.8 million. Later, he spent $7.6 million to build a mansion. The 28,000-square-foot home features 11 bedrooms, a media room, billiards room and sports court.
Today Jordan lives on the property with his wife Yvette and daughters Victoria and Ysabel.
Relaxing lakeside cabin
In 2011, Jordan purchased a lakefront home in Cornelius, North Carolina, for $2.8 million. The home, just 22 miles north of his apartment in Uptown Charlotte, offers views of Lake Norman through floor-to-ceiling windows.
