Interview with Michael Schumacher, how the fake artificial intelligence was built

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The design of the answers posted by Schumacher is the same as that of the Character.Ai portal. The chatbot with which the questions were created is not very advanced from an IT point of view: the answers are sterile and pre-packaged.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

“I am Michael Schumacher, I have won the Formula 1 championship seven times and I am still the driver with the most victories! Do you want an autograph?”. These are the first words that Michael Schumacher addressed to journalists of the German magazine Die Aktuelle. Or better. These are the first words that the Michael Schumacher’s chatbots addressed to those who have thought of registering on the artificial intelligence platform Character.Ai and arrange an interview with a great athlete about whose condition practically nothing is known since about ten years.

The Die Aktuelle published this dialogue on its front page with a hardly misunderstood title: “Das Erste Interview!”, “The first interview”. A yellow headline with the driver’s face behind it. Underneath, however, a few launches already suggest that something is not working. You read phrases like “What’s behind it” or “It sounds deceptively real”.

The interview was done entirely with a chatbot based onartificial intelligence. And this, let’s be clear, is not said in a footnote but it is very clear from the beginning of the article. There are also pictures of the conversations and a photo of Pope Francis wearing the now famous Moncler down jacket.

The app that undresses girls arrives in schools, the Guarantor of Childhood: “BikiniOff is not a stunt”

The whole operation has raised more than one criticism given that the family has decided on a line for some time total confidentiality on the health conditions of the champion after a fall on the ski slopes of Méribel in France in 2013 caused him serious neurological damage. In the Netflix documentary titled Schumacher his wife Corinna Betsch said: “Michael has always protected us and now we are protecting Michael.”

How Character.Ai works

Net of the editorial choice and the doubts that such a project can raise, the portal used to create this dialogue is based on a series of mundane mechanisms. To clarify, we are absolutely not at the level of what we have seen with the texts of ChatGPT or the photographs of Midjourney. According to the British newspaper The Independentthis chatbot is Character.Ai.

The operation is quite simple, we also leave you an article where we tried it. You access the portal, create a free account to be able to use all the services in exchange for some data and then we start. There are available to users dozens of chatbots, from those pretending to be Socrates to those shifting to a more obvious Elon Musk. But there are also Billie Eilishthe Queen Elizabeth II, Bill Gates And Cristiano Ronaldo.

The experience is not exciting. Chatbots often offer pre-packaged, sterile answers with no possibility of variation. Anyone can build a character, create a library of biographies, quotes or songs and then publish it for everyone to see. The chatbot used to do theSchumacher interview it no longer seems reachable, at least from Italy. We tried the only one left. It looks like one of the worse ones. When we asked him “Are you real?” he replied “Of course not real, I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t, stupid!”.
