I am the captainpresented these days in competition at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, directed by Matteo Garrone (embalmer, Gomorrah, dog man, Reality) and is inspired by the real stories of many young people who have made a dramatic migratory journey that has become a real odyssey in the modern world. The main characters are Seydou and Moussa (played by Seydou Sarr and Mustafa Fall) who leave Dakar, Senegal, to cross the desert and its thousand dangers, the dangers of the high seas and of man himself, full of ambiguity and hypocrisy.

I am the captain is a Homeric tale that tells of a journey full of obstacles, traps, fears, but also hope. The script of the film, written by Matteo Garrone with Massimo Gaudioso, Massimo Cecherini and Andrea Tagliaferri, is inspired by the story of Garrone himself, inspired by the stories of Kouassi Pli Adam Mamadou, Arno Zohin, Amara Fofana, Brhane Tareke and Siaki Doumbia. all the guys who really made the journey of the two main characters of the film.

The film is an international Italian-Belgian co-production filmed over 13 weeks in Senegal, Morocco and Italy.
