Is Playstation Arrowing Xbox on First-Party Success? Jim Ryan: ‘Talent Can’t Be Fed by Throwing Money
In a recent interview with Axios, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan praised the quality of first-party titles on the PlayStation 5 platform, such as Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart.
According to his words, the success of these works would not only be linked to the budget and the money invested, which are important, but also to the full creative freedom granted to the studies:
” Feeding creative talent isn’t just about throwing money at them. You also need to give them the freedom to be creative, take risks, and come up with new ideas. We want our first-party developers to be able to use our hardware as their creative palette. “.
Ryan continued his speech by admitting that although PlayStation 4 proved to be a huge success for the company, the most important first-party titles of that generation only arrived in the second half of its life cycle.
Thankfully, this won’t happen with PlayStation 5:
” If you play like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are examples of what developers can do in the first six months of PS5, imagine what we’ll see in two or three years. “
The prospects are attractive and if Sony continues to guarantee full creative freedom to its teams (as well as an adequate budget which, of course, is always needed), then we will really see some good ones, don’t you think?
