It writes “the Night of the Oscars”, it reads “the evening when anything can happen”

The most awaited night of the year has arrived. Tonight the Dolby Theater in Hollywood will light up with the stars of cinema and entertainment. A unique show which, however, was not only the moment in which to award the best films and the best protagonists of the year at the cinema, but also the place where anything can happen. And, in fact, Will Smith and Chris Rock taught us that last year. The famous slap, the result of a joke by the comedian about the actor’s wife, made people talk for months and months. But over the years he is not the only “unforeseen” that has caused discussion.

Starting from afar, in 1973, Marlon Brando even deserted the ceremony, refusing the award for best actor for “The Godfather” due to Hollywood’s poor treatment of Native Americans. So much so that Sacheen Littlefeather, a young Native American, went on stage to collect the award. And what about 1974, when gay rights activist Robert Opel took the stage stark naked? A little less obvious, but iconic demonstrations. The American actor, of Ukrainian origins, Jack Palance in 1992 withdrew the award for best supporting actor and, at the ripe old age of 73, showed his physical qualities with push-ups with one arm.

If “our” Roberto Benigni’s joy in 1999 was contagious – he jumped into his car seats after the iconic “Roberto!” by Sofia Loren at the reading of the winner of the best foreign film – there were many epic fails during the Oscars. Like Jennifer Lawrence, best actress in 2013, who tripped on the stairs on stage. But perhaps, in addition to Will Smith’s 2022 slap, the most sensational moment occurred in 2017. Warren Beatty is holding the wrong envelope and announcing that the best picture is “La La Land”, when in reality the winner is “Moonlight ”. Who knows if this year someone will try to match these historic moments…
