Itagua hospital director denies lack of supplies: “This is an irresponsible complaint” – Última Hora

Dr. Miguel Ferreira, director of the National Hospital of Itaogua in the central sector, spoke on Monday via Monumental 1080 about the situation at the medical center following an anonymous complaint about the use of medicines and non-clinical drugs in the intensive care unit. There is a shortage of essential goods.

Doctors categorically denied this and said disappearances sometimes occur in the morning because supplies arrive only at noon.

He assured that even expensive antibiotics, costing about GH¢400,000 each, were always available in treatment, which is why he said it was an “irresponsible” and malicious complaint.

“We almost have supplies. Suddenly there may be a shortage of something that didn’t arrive in the morning, but the list that comes out is a complete lie. We have enough antibiotics, and we have the most expensive antibiotics. I categorically deny this. To me “It seemed like a completely irresponsible complaint to make because it was anonymous, which is why I asked for a formal complaint to be made about the prescription,” he explained.

On the other hand, the doctor explained that patients currently coming to the hospital generally present with symptoms of decompensation caused by high blood pressure, or symptoms of obesity caused by extreme heat; acute gastroenteritis and cardiovascular symptoms, as well as some respiratory symptoms.

Regarding dengue and chikungunya, he insisted that currently they had almost none, although they were preparing to face possible new arbovirus epidemics. He urged citizens to continue cleaning their yards and eliminating mosquito breeding sites of all kinds.

“We are preparing everything. We have prepared our officials. The Ministry of Health has opened refresher courses and we have developed care protocols for this because it is clear that a new epidemic is coming, so we ask citizens to check their yards every day and eliminate breeding sites,” he specifically noted.

Complaints about lack of therapeutic supplies

Suspected doctors at the National Hospital of Itaogua anonymously reported shortages of supplies and drugs in intensive care units, ensuring patients had to pay.

They noted that the case raised concerns among family members, especially because the drugs are expensive and they often do not have the resources to purchase them.

In addition to the remedies, they point to an alleged lack of sedatives for intubated patients; constantly changing respirator filters; catheters for patients who need help urinating; and even a lack of syringes.
