Egypt participates in the films “A Nose and Three Eyes” by director Amir Ramses and “Shamarekh” by director Amr Salama, in world premiere. He also participates in the films “Hajan” directed by Abu Bakr Shawqi, which is a co-production with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and “I Miss You” directed by Tamer Raghli, and a co-production with France and Switzerland.

Egyptian director Amir Ramses expressed his pride in the participation of his film “A Nose and Three Eyes” in the “Arab Masterpieces” section, saying in statements to Asharq Al-Awsat: “I am obviously proud that the festival chose the film , and I hoped to be happy about it; But no one notices this situation in light of the ongoing war in Gaza”, underlining that “cinema must continue; Because it is a means of resistance,” he said.

Ramses had finished shooting the film at the beginning of last October, during the preparations for the canceled Cairo Film Festival, and through it he re-proposes the novel “A Nose and Three Eyes” by the writer Ihsan Abdel Quddus, which Egyptian cinema had previously featured in a film of the same title in 1972. , starring Mahmoud Yassin, Naglaa Fathi, Magda Al-Khatib and Mervat Amin.

Rameses kept the title the same, emphasizing that he was not afraid of confusing the audience and that he preferred to remain faithful to the novel’s original title in a contemporary treatment of the fictional text, with a different narrative form, new characters and a different dramatic structure.

He noted that he does not mind the comparison with the previous film, as it presents the events in the present time, through a good cinematic plot written by screenwriter Wael Hamdy, promising that the audience will watch an entertaining film, hoping that they will like it. It.

The film Ramses, starring the Tunisian artist Dhafer El Abidine, Salma Abu Deif, Saba Mubarak, Amina Khalil, Sedqi Sakhr and Noura Mahmoud, and produced by the Egyptian Shahinaz El Akkad, tells the story of the doctor “Hashim Abdel Latif”, which concerns three women, each of whom has a history full of conflicts and the psychology that is reflected in their relationship with him.

Director Amr Salama will also attend the world premiere of his film “Shamarekh”, the events of which revolve around the thrilling story of a hitman who runs away with a woman he was supposed to kill.

The director, who also wrote the film, said in press statements: “The film is about the pressures a person is exposed to that can make them explode like embers.” It stars Aser Yassin, Amina Khalil, Khaled Al-Sawy and Adam Al-Sharqawi.

This is Amr Salama’s second participation in the Red Sea Festival. Her film “Outside the Curriculum” was screened at the end of the first session of the festival.

Promising joint Egyptian works include the film “Haggan”, a joint production of the Saudi Center “Ithra” and Mohamed Hefzy’s Egyptian company “Film Clinic”. The Toronto Film Festival saw its world premiere during its 48th session within the “Discovery” section, which covers the early works of directors.

Director Abu Bakr Shawqi said in statements to Asharq Al-Awsat that he is very interested in showing the film to Saudi audiences at the Red Sea Festival. It was filmed in the Saudi desert and in beautiful places that had never been filmed before. He confirmed in previous statements to Asharq Al-Awsat his enthusiasm for the work since he read the script about the idea of ​​”camel racing”, which is an unknown sport in the Western world.

The film “Hajan” stars Abdul Mohsen Al-Nimr, Ibrahim Al-Hassawi, Al-Shaima Al-Tayeb, Muhammad Al-Zahrani and Toulin Barboud. It is the story of Matar and his brother Ghanem, who is involved in an unfortunate accident, so Matar decides to go camel racing to save the life of the camel Hafira.

The French-Egyptian director Tamer Raghli will participate in the film “Return to Alexandria” in English, while it will be titled “I Miss You” in Arabic.

The film was co-written by Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah and stars Nadine Labaki, French artist Fanny Ardan and Egyptians Hani Adel and Salwa Othman.

The film follows the journey of psychiatrist Sue as she returns from Switzerland, where she immigrated 20 years ago, to her hometown of Alexandria to visit her mother in her final days of life.

During her sudden journey, Sue becomes burdened with distant memories mixed with nostalgia and the ghosts of the past and all that it contains, recalling her memories of Egypt, the Nile and Alexandria.
