Kate Winslet is an actress who has been stunning audiences for many years now. With each endeavor, her position in Hollywood grew stronger. While the actress is notable for being the youngest person to receive six Oscar nominations at age 33, there was a time when some of those winless nominations teased her. There have been several instances in Oscar history where compelling performers have received multiple nominations to no avail. Today the situation is different for the two stars. But there was a time when Winslet spoke about how these repeated no-win nominations affected her.
Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett received the same number of Oscar nominations
As mentioned earlier, times are different now. Winslet currently has seven Oscar nominations compared to Cate Blanchett’s eight. This moved them both up the list of Oscar-nominated actresses with the most nominations, closer to the top. However, in 2008, as stated in an interview with Vanity Fair, both actresses entered the club of five nominations, along with such actresses as Audrey Hepburn, Susan Sarandon, Elizabeth Taylor and Glenn Close. Kate Winslet also made history at 31, becoming the youngest actress to receive five Oscar nominations.
Revolutionary Street The star acknowledged her gratitude for the historic achievement in the same interview with Vanity Fair, sharing her thoughts on the matter as follows:
“I remember when someone told me (about the record), I allowed myself a serious moment where I punched the air. You know, I’m alone in the apartment, just jumping, screaming and saying: “Damn it!” This shouldn’t have happened to someone like me.”

She spoke about the difficulties she had to face to reach this honorable point. Life was not easy and she was not prepared for this business. Winslet was able to achieve such success through the efforts of her mother. Her grandmother also contributed. This was followed by Ammonite star statement:
“I’m not a purebred child. I don’t have a classical education. I don’t come from a fancy house, no. My mother had to put aside her family allowance, the money she would receive from the government for me and my three siblings, and she had to spend the entire amount on tuition (at acting school). And my grandmother contributed. (…) I struggled seriously. (…) For me to be in this position, having these nominations, it doesn’t happen like that, you know? This is wrong.
The actress expressed gratitude for the recognition received. She understood the value of these achievements because she had to endure significant hardships before reaching this point. But there were times when she began to feel the weight of all her Oscar nominations.
Kate Winslet desperately wanted an Oscar
Before her ambitions were realized at the 81st Academy Awards, held in February 2009, for her role in Reader (2008), tHe the actress poured out her heart and soul to Vanity Fair. Kate Winslet admitted that she always believed that she would not receive such a coveted award. However, there was a part of her that yearned for an Oscar. She claimed that her happy-go-lucky nature made it seem like she didn’t care about the reward, but that was far from the truth. The following was her statement:
“Do I want this? I bet yes, I do! I think people assume that I don’t care about it, or I don’t want it, or I don’t need it, or whatever. It’s hard to be there five times, and I’m only human, you know? But I don’t go home and cry because we’re all adults here.”
