JENNIFER LOPEZ AND THE CONCEPT OF ITALIAN TOURISM: ONLY FOOD AND TARANTELA?

The summer of 2023 was marked by an incredible influx of tourists to Italy. In particular, in the summer Campania was literally stormed by known and unknown personalities who invaded the region. Among them, of course, stands out Jennifer Lopez. 54 years lived divinely, the singer-songwriter, actress and dancer needs no introduction. Without Ben Affleck, who will likely join her from Florence, where he was spotted with his kids and ex-wife (actress Jennifer Garner), JLO is enjoying summer on the Amalfi Coast. With friends and colleagues during lunch at the restaurant “Lo scoglio” in Marina del Cantone, village of Nerano (Massa Lubrense). For her Instagram story, the Puerto Rican star chose an “Italian mambo” as the backdrop: “Spaghetti, ravioli,” she comments in front of her plate. The video caused some controversy over the concept of Italy solely and exclusively as the home of good food. Some users went crazy on Twitter:

“But is this really the image we want to return to our beautiful country? Our people have always been the cradle of good food. But Italy is not only about food and wine. Gastronomy and wine tours should be just the frame of a crazy picture.”

“How about a good art exhibition? Visiting a cathedral? No, sit down and eat. As if we were only famous for food.”

Meanwhile, just a few days ago, Il Mattino published a survey among tourists vacationing in Naples. According to their report cards “Improve services, promote arts and food.”
