The entrepreneur credits of the MTV reality show with the launch of its brand.
Jessica Simpson says she will not repent of MTV, reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica with her ex-husband Nick Lachey –but she could take it back for the third season. The 39-year-old singer and fashion designer opened up about her starring season in the first reality show during an appearance in On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
In the interview, Jessica said that was her father Joe Simpson’s idea of the cameras to follow her and Nick during the first year of marriage more than 15 years ago. Jessica told Seacrest that the protagonist of the Newlyweds at the age of 22 years was one of the more “empowerment” of the things he has done.
“I believe in making the Newlyweds that is what made the people — that is what launched my brand,” Jessica explained. “Absolutely, I would go back and do it all over again. It is never something that I would not make again, just maybe wouldn’t have done a third season.”
The real life of a newly-married couple costarred in MTV Newlyweds from 2003 to 2005, but by the end of the third season of the show, their marriage was on the rocks.
With the honeymoon over, the Newlyweds’ the third season featured episodes about Nick’s boy weekend in los Cabos, Jessica get a root canal, and his role in the film The Dukes of Hazzard. In his book of memoirs, Open BookJessica admitted that she had an “emotional” attachment to their Dukes co-star Johnny Knoxville during filming of the movie, which admitted that it was a betrayal of his marriage.
While Jessica doesn’t blame the Newlyweds by the death of his first marriage, in her book she revealed to producers sometimes stir the pot, according to TooFab. In Open BookJessica recalled a time a producer of the show, showed him a tabloid report about Nick doing some vague thing” with a star of films for adults simply to get a reaction from the camera.
Jessica and Nick divorced in 2006. The businessman previously said his biggest regret of her marriage with Nick not to have a prenuptial agreement.
Jessica is not the only one who has no regrets about the Newlyweds. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen (via YouTube), Nick admitted the reality show MTV gave him the opportunity to show that he was as an individual after being in the boy band 98 Degrees for years.
“The show gave me a great platform to say, ‘Hey, this is who I am.’ And has a lot of fans to this day because of the fair. … That vibrates with it,” said Nick.
Both the Newlyweds stars have since remarried. Jessica wed NFL player Eric Johnson in 2014, while Nick wed Vanessa Minnillo in 2011. Jessica told Seacrest she has no desire to share his new life with Johnson in the front of reality TV cameras.
