Jodie Comer will finally win an Oscar for Biker Men – GoldDerby

Killing Eve may seem like a long time ago, but the series star, Jodie Comer, is not only still relevant, but gaining momentum. Her most recent role was as the leading lady in Jeff NicholsThe American epic “Biker Riders” is proof of this. The 20th Century release will hit theaters on December 1st.

Comer plays Katie, a young woman who is drawn into the world of a Midwestern motorcycle club when she falls in love with one of its young members. Austin ButlerThis is Benny. Kathy tells the story of a motorcycle club, so Comer is without a doubt the leading lady of the film, and boy does she make the most of it. Comer showed off her incredible talent for accents in Killing Eve, and here she takes it up a notch, achieving a thick Midwestern accent. You immediately get the feeling that you are watching a full-fledged character, and not an actor in a wig with a funny accent (which is the danger of such a tricky accent). Comer also brings agency, urgency and emotion to the role that might have been weaker with another actress. Critics agree that this is another special performance from a special actress.

Tomris Laffley (Wrapper) noted: “Depicted with frisky precision by the always stunning Jodie Comer (who is as at ease with her character’s peculiar Midwestern accent as she is with her bouffant hairstyles), Cathy is introduced to us early on in the laundromat… Throughout the film, Cathy serves as moral and narrative the core of the story, bolstered by Comer’s nimble and committed performance as a woman seeking survival in the face of growing toxicity.”

Maureen Lee Lenker (EW) explained, “It’s Emmy and Tony winner Jodie Comer who delivers the film’s deft laughs. As Katie, she’s all crinkled vowels and hilarious sarcasm. From the moment she meets Benny, she has his number, but that doesn’t stop her from falling in love with him. Comer plays Katie with an internal exasperation, as if she constantly can’t believe how stupid she is for loving Benny so much. But she’s also a force of nature, willing to go toe-to-toe with anyone who tries to claim Benny over her. Comer may have resented being known as a steely English rose, but here she wields Midwestern spunk, slaying with kindness and a laid-back attitude. Johnny may be the leader of the gang, but in Comer’s hands, Katie is the real boss.”

Gregory Ellwood (Playlist) wrote: “When a film is at its best, it’s often because of yet another top-notch performance from the one and only Jodie Comer… With just a wig and an accent, Comer is almost unrecognizable in Katy (at first, anyway). The accent is part Chicago, part Milwaukee, and a midwestern Minnesota accent for good measure. It’s so consistent that you realize she must have been studying this for months. Katie talks about the development of the club from the outside and inside; She’s the heart and soul of the film.”

Matt Nella (Next best movie) stated: “The real outstanding person is Comer. She owns the entire movie and steals it from all the manly men around her. A once-in-a-lifetime chameleon actress who can transform herself into anyone she wants, she does so once again as the strong-willed and outspoken wife of a man whose affection for her always rivals his love. for vandals. Comer, who has a thick Southern accent, chain-smokes and tells jokes in interviews with a magnetism that few other actors can capture. Her eyes are always bulging, her body is always in motion, but despite all the “you know” and other quirks of her character, her commanding empathy is warm and effective. It is simply impossible to measure her brilliant talent.”

However, although Comer received outstanding critical acclaim for the role, she is not among our projected Best Actress nominees: Emma Stone (“Poor things”), Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) Carey Mulligan (“Owner”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”) and Barrino fantasy (“The color purple”). But some of these names are no longer as secure as they used to be. Stone, Gladstone and Mulligan certainly seem like locks, but Hüller has slipped, as has Barrino, whose film The Color Purple we’re not sure will even please Oscar voters. That could leave room for someone like Comer, and her biggest strength is how popular she already is among awards groups.

This is an actress who has already been awarded by various organizations, she is not new to awards. She has six BAFTA TV Award nominations to her name: five for Best Actress and one for Best Drama Single as a Producer. Nominations for Best Actress include Thirteen (2017), Killing Eve (2019, 2020 and 2021) and The Help (2022). “Help” won Best Drama Single, and she won Best Actress in 2019 and 2022. She also has two Critics’ Choice Award nominations to her name, both for Killing Eve for Best Drama Actress in 2019 and 2020. She has two Golden Globe nominations for the same show and category in 2020 and 2021. She also received a SAG nomination for Best Drama Actress in 2020 for Killing Eve. She has three Emmy nominations to her name, all for Best Drama Actress for Killing Eve. They were in 2019, 2020 and 2022. She won in 2019. And this is only for television! She won the 2023 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress for Prima at First Sight and the 2023 Tony Award for Best Actress for the same play. Comer has been verified by almost all major awards. The only thing missing is an Oscar nomination—and it feels like, given the trajectory of her career at the moment, she’s turning two one any minute. She just needs the right project. And Biker Boys may well be the right project to earn her first Oscar nomination.

First, it turns into a somewhat transformative performance. Okay, that’s unlikely Charlize Theron in “Monster” or Daniel Day Lewis well, in any Daniel Day-Lewis movie, but it’s still a big departure from who she is off-screen. The accent coupled with a dramatic hairstyle produces at least a semi-transformation. Several other actresses have benefited from such performances over the past few years, including Ana de Armas in 2023 for “Blonde” Kristin Stewart in 2022 for Spencer Jessica Chastain in 2022 (winner) for The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Theron in 2020 for Bombshell.

Comer is also an ingénue—we know how many voters like ingénues in that category. De Armas (“Blonde”), Stewart (“Spencer”), Vanessa Kirby in 2021 (“Pieces of a Woman”), Saoirse Ronan in 2020 (“Little Women”) and Margot Robbie in 2018 (“I, Tonya”) are all recent examples of female inventors being nominated for best actress. Additionally, the male-dominated nature of the film means that Comer stands out as the only major female character in the film. This could also give her a boost. She rises above all this machismo and owns the film herself, just like Jennifer Jason Leigh

did so when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2016 for The Hateful Eight. This may very well be the year Comer gets her first Oscar nomination.
