In 2022 Voice Coach John Legend has taken on a new challenge in his extensive music career: a residency in Las Vegas. The EGOT winner certainly has enough of his own discography to fill a lot nights, and his fast-paced, exciting 2022 show, Love in Las Vegas, was a stunning showcase of all his work.

In December 2021, Legend took to Instagram to announce the residency, promising fans it would “feature your favorite songs from my entire career… full lineup… great show… magical night.”

In addition to having a wider discography than could possibly fit into one particular concert tour, Legend wanted to enjoy what Vegas had to offer the artist. “I think Vegas is a fun canvas to paint; there’s already so much tradition here, so many opportunities to make it big and kind of an expectation that you’ll make it big,” he said. Billboard. “It’s liberating in a way; you feel like you can do things that maybe you couldn’t do on a regular tour.”

He was also inspired by other artists who had successful residencies, such as Usher and Gwen Stefani. “I loved watching Gwen’s show, remembering the different looks and styles she’s gone through over the years,” he said. “Part of the cool thing about the Vegas residency is that it’s an opportunity to look back and celebrate all the stories in your life that got you to where you are.
What new songs did John Legend perform in Vegas?
Most of Vegas’s set included the famous artist’s old hits, but it certainly didn’t stop there.
The singer performed numerous solo piano songs from his latest album, Legend, including the song “Nervous”, which has subsequently racked up more than 6 million views on YouTube. The video gave fans who weren’t able to attend live a sneak peek at Legend’s residence.

The show ultimately focused on Legend’s career as a whole. “We wanted to tell my story — and a lot of it was about me going back to church, where I learned to play music, music that influenced me,” he said. Billboard. “We also wanted to make sure it was a retrospective of my entire career, so music from all my albums.”

Combining years of prolific musicianship into one evening is no easy task, so the residency process helped him narrow down the tasks he should perform. “I think it all starts with knowing who you are as an artist based on who you are, the music you’ve created, your history and what makes you unique,” he said.
Will John Legend visit Vegas again?
The legend currently appears on Voice He is in his 24th season as a coach and has competed all over the world since his tenure, but the lineup does not yet have another residency in Vegas. His upcoming performances include “song-in-story” nights at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and Beacon Theater in New York City.

“It’s a great mid-career move,” Legend said of working in Vegas. “You have enough repertoire to support a residency, but you’re definitely not retiring. We have so much ahead of us. It’s a good time to look back and celebrate, but also show people what’s coming next.”
