Johnny Depp takes up painting and earns 10 million euros

The “pirate” Johnny Depp has a thousand lives. After the exhausting adventure in court against his ex-wife Amber Heard, and waiting to return to the set to direct a biographical film on the artist Amedeo Modigliani (co-produced, it seems, with Al Pacino) he devoted himself profitably to art . And he immediately found a gallery that knew how to enhance his creatures, Castle Fine Art which he writes on its website: «Each image is an intimate reflection of their character in Johnny’s eyes. A portrait of how they revealed themselves to him. Starting from photographic references, each image was reduced to a simpler and more iconic portrait of the subject, which Johnny then developed with his characteristic freehand flashes». With the new production of paintings, the former Pirate of the Caribbean has already earned 10 million euros.

Last summer, another collection of signed prints by Depp, entitled Friends & Heroes, which depicted the faces of Keith Richards, Al Pacino, Bob Dylan and Elizabeth Taylor, sold for 4,000 euros each.

The 59-year-old actor explained to the Daily Mail that he is “really flattered” that people are interested in the work he does “outside my day job. For many years I limited myself to working in the film world, even though I always needed to escape onto a blank sheet, whether it was writing, drawing or painting a blank canvas. Tackling something for the first time with no idea what is about to begin and what will come of it is deeply fulfilling. The fact that people are seeing these things for the first time and reacting so positively to what I’ve made is very heartwarming.”

The film about Amedeo Modigliani

After the well-known legal events, Johnny Depp is trying to rebuild his career in Hollywood. If Jeanne du Barry stands out among the most anticipated films of 2023, in which he plays King Louis XV for his friend, actress and director Maïwenn, the next time on a set he will be behind the camera. 26 years after his debut with The Brave, he will bring the story of the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani to the big screen. Produced by Al Pacino, Modigliani takes place in Paris in 1916. According to the film’s press release, the artist «long considered by himself a critical and commercial failure, passes through 48 turbulent and eventful hours that will become a turning point in life of him. Finally consolidating his reputation as a legend of art».
