The Ryder Cup celebrations don’t end in Rome, at least for Sean Lowry and Rory McIlroy.
in part two Interview with the Irish Independent, they talked about flights to South Florida, and then McIlroy invited Lowry to come for lunch the next day. A bottle of wine was opened. Then another. Lunch turned into dinner.
Captain Luke Donald soon joined them, as did Michael Jordan.
“Rory and Luke started texting him and the next thing we know we’re sitting there drinking with Michael Jordan, just the four of us,” Lowry said. “He’s a very pro-American guy. “I think it was the first time in 25 years that he didn’t play in the Ryder Cup, so we criticized him pretty hard. “
McIlroy said Jordan was on the topic from 6 to 9 p.m.: paying to play, of course.
“He told a story about the USA basketball team, the ’92 Olympic dream team. “Don’t you think I could get paid to be in the Olympics? ” he said. ” ‘These people don’t grasp the point of it. ‘
“He saw the long-term value of winning the Olympics and said he ended up doing a lot better than taking money on the spot.”
McIlroy told Lowry he desperately wanted a photo of the group, but as a sports star, “he doesn’t need that.”
“But … myself, Rory, Luke and Jordan were sitting around talking about the Ryder Cup,” Lowry said. “This is not the celebration I imagined.”
