Justin Thomas has revealed he won thousands of pounds while playing golf with Michael Jordan as a teenager and used the winnings to buy himself his first car.
The golf star appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to discuss the deal he struck with the NBA icon. The former Chicago Bulls player is an avid golfer who attends the Kentucky Derby every year.
There, he would play a round of golf with former NBA player Junior Bridgeman and Thomas’ father, Mike, the head pro at their course. Thomas was their caddy, and in their third year playing together, Jordan invited Thomas to join him as his partner, and their performance paid off handsomely.

“I didn’t play the first few years. My dad’s course was very old-school – no tee times, no rules really, just playing in sixes or whatever, no caddies. So I would be the team’s caddy, Thomas began. “The first few years, I would help them. Finally, in the third year – the last year they came out – he would call me ‘little man,’ so he said, ‘Little man, go get your clubs, Because you’re going to play the last seven holes with us. ” ‘”
Thomas continued: “He knew I played golf, but he didn’t know I was decent, and certainly no one else knew that. I had four birdies in seven holes and helped pay for my first car cost.” When Colbert asked Thomas if he felt nervous about performing at his best, he said, “No, I just felt pressure to play with Michael Jordan.” He said, ‘Well, I’m It’s his turn. “
The golfer said he was not told the amount of money they were playing for in case it excited him, and later discovered the amount of the bet. “I won 3-4 big prizes,” the American added. “The assistant was helping pack things up and everyone was coming in through the 36 holes and my dad was like giving me a hard time. ‘You need to tip him.’ ” I said, “Tip who?” “He said, ‘Matt, assistant.'”

This interview was conducted after Thomas had a poor showing at the Valspar Championship on the penultimate weekend of March. After making an early birdie to tie for first, he dropped to a tie for 66th.
He finished the round with an eight-over 79, one of the worst scores of his career. He finished the event tied for 64th at 3 over, and despite his poor performance just three weeks away from the Masters, he wasn’t worried. “At the end of the day, at some point, (saying) ‘hit a good putt’ … I mean, they need to go in,” Thomas said.
“But I do feel like I putted well at Bay Hill and the first two days here (68-69). My speed dropped this week and I couldn’t quite get the ball in the hole. It’s really one of those ‘golf “One of those days. It’s terrible. It’s bad timing, but this week is a lot better than it was in a few weeks.”
