Pirates of the Caribbean is not finished yet, but what does Keira Knightley think of a possible return of Elisabeth? Here’s what we know
Pirates of the Caribbean could return with a sixth film, twenty years after the release of the first: The curse of the first moon. But if so, who would we find in the cast? Keira Knightley, who played the iconic Elisabeth Swann, alongside Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, has already spoken about it. Her last, short, appearance in the saga was in 2017, in Pirates of the Caribbean – Salazar’s Revenge, after being the female lead in the first three films. What are her intentions now?
The British actress was interviewed by ET at the premiere of his new film Boston Strangler. As reported by ScreenRant, Keira Knightley doesn’t seem intent on it to return to the saga. When asked about it, he replied: “She went off so nice, I mean she sailed away brilliantly.” hinting that she is pleased with the way her character has been exited. This is not surprising given her previous statements about how imprisoned she felt in that role so sexualized and far from her ideology, which marked her for many years.
What will become of Pirates of the Caribbean?
the debut of the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean it happened in 2003 with the first film, then continuing with four more and expanding with comics, novels and more. The saga has become iconic, managing to collect enough to recover the high production costs. It is therefore not surprising that the manufacturer, Jerry Bruckheimer, has always left open a possible continuation with other films.
But what about Pirates of the Caribbean without its iconic protagonist? The public has never accepted a continuation of the saga without the pirate Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp. The producer himself never seems to have had the intention, but given the actor’s legal problems in recent years, related to his divorce with Amber Heard, there have been strong doubts about Depp’s return to the big screen.
In any case, Bruckheimer said he was ready to call Depp back for the sixth film. Given Knightley’s intentions instead, Orlando Bloom is likely to suffer the same fate, given the love story between their characters. It is possible therefore, that in the next film they will see each other new young cast members.
