ATHENS — Georgia tight end Brock Bowles didn’t hear any “outside noise” when asked about hearing his name mentioned for the Heisman Trophy.
“We’re really worried about winning the next game, so we have to keep working hard,” Bowles said after his eight-catch, 157-yard heroics to lead the Bulldogs in a game that was televised nationally on CBS Defeated Auburn 27-20. .
“I just try to do my job. “If the ball comes to me, I have to make a play. “
It just so happens that no one can hit the ball quite like Bowles, and no one can seem to stop him when the ball is in the air.
Bowles will be the center of attention against No. 20 Kentucky when the Wildcats come to Sanford Stadium to beat No. 1 Georgia in a 7 p.m. game.
Of course, Bowles is the focus of every opponent and, as UK coach Mark Stoops points out, the key is containing him.
“He made back-to-back one-handed catches the other day and they covered him really well,” Stoops said. “I don’t think we can put more than two players on him at any one point.
“But I think Brock is going to get his… It’s kind of like going against Michael Jordan or someone like that, you know they’re going to get theirs.”
