La Princesa Hospital conducts breath tests on its users on World COPD Day

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a heterogeneous, preventable, and treatable lung disease characterized by lung inflammation leading to airway obstruction. The most common symptoms are: chronic cough, shortness of breath, frequent bronchitis, limited energy, morning phlegm, and chest pain when coughing.

The disease is essentially associated with exposure to tobacco smoke and, to a lesser extent, inhaled, occupational, environmental toxins or products from biomass combustion. It has no cure, but if diagnosed early, current treatments can be used to halt its progression and control its symptoms.
