Lakers’ LeBron James closes gap between himself and Michael Jordan with latest feat

LeBron James moved up one spot on the NBA’s all-time steals list with the Lakers’ win over the Rockets on Sunday night.

LeBron James put in another stellar performance as he led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-104 victory over the Houston Rockets at home on Sunday night.

The four-time league MVP even surpassed a legend on the NBA’s all-time steals list. James’ three steals against the Rockets displaced former Portland Trail Blazers star Clyde Drexler into eighth place, putting him just four spots behind Michael Jordan.

James enters the Rockets with 2,205 career steals.

Next on LeBron James’ list is Jordan’s former Chicago Bulls teammate and Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, who still leads the Lakers superstar with 99 steals. If James were to surpass Pippen, he might do so as early as next season. James hasn’t had a 100-steal season since the 2017-18 season. In the 2022-23 NBA season, James had 50 steals in 50 games.

Considering how well LeBron James continues to perform and perform on the court, it seems like he still has at least a few more seasons left in his legs. In the game against the Rockets, he played 40 minutes, made 14 of 19 shots, and scored 37 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

The all-time steal leader in NBA history is former Utah Jazz point guard John Stockton, who completed 3,265 steals during his long career in the league. It is considered one of the unbreakable records in sports. Meanwhile, Chris Paul of the Golden State Warriors is the all-time leader in steals among active players with 2,567.
