LOS ANGELES — LeBron James is dedicating his upcoming 21st NBA season to his son, Bronny James, who is recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered while training heading into his freshman season at USC this summer.
“Bronny’s doing really well,” James said at training camp’s opening media day. “He has begun the rehab process to return to the field this season with his teammates and USC.”
Bronny did not participate in USC’s first official practice of the season in late September, but according to LeBron, he is recovering well after losing consciousness following a heart attack in July.
“If he walked in the door right now,” LeBron James said, “you wouldn’t even know what he has.”

James feels that he still has a lot of energy in the 2023-24 season. This year, he averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 55 games, helping the Lakers achieve a 43-39 record and advance to the Western Conference. First. After defeating the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors in six games, they reached the conference finals.
Bronny, meanwhile, enters his freshman season at USC ranked No. 22 in the class of 2023, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
Along with No. 1 prospect Isaiah Collier, the Trojans are poised to have a solid season in the Pac-12 — though it’s unclear when or if James will take the field this season.
