After Team USA failed to win a medal at the FIBA World Cup with a team made up of young players, discussion immediately turned to which stars could potentially represent Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James reportedly expressed immediate interest, with teammate Anthony Davis and a number of other top stars also mentioned as potential members.
As training camps get underway around the league, the topic has been brought up by many players, with Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry both already committing to Team USA. However, it remains to be seen whether the Lakers’ superstar duo will be on board as well.
LeBron has talked about the possibility and remains interested in joining Team USA, but wants to see how his body feels by the end of the season first.
“Gone. I do have interest, so we’ll see what happens,” LeBron said at Lakers media day. “But as for the physical loss, I don’t know. I’ll see how I feel at the end of the season.
“But looking at the players we have here, I can immediately think of ways I could fill out this roster, and I don’t think it’s going to take too much of a toll physically. I don’t have to do a lot. I mean, rebound a little bit, pass the ball A little bit, defense, some blocking. But we’ll see. “We’ll see what happens. “
Coming off his 21st NBA season, LeBron would rather wait to fully commit, which makes sense since he may need some time off after a long season. But he’s also right that with the talent Team USA can muster, he could certainly play more of a backseat role.
As Davis said, he was just waiting for an invite to Team USA Spectrum Sports Network:
“If they ask me, I’m in. Just waiting to be asked. I mean, I really only did it once. I really haven’t — LeBron, Kobe, (Chris Paul), Melo — I sit On the bench. So, if they ask, I’ll definitely be on it.”
The biggest problem for the U.S. team during the World Cup was lack of size. The deep team dominates Team USA in the paint and on the boards, and the addition of Davis will help solve that problem right away. All things considered, Team USA is poised to dominate next summer.

While this may be in their future, for now, James and Davis are only focused on the upcoming Lakers season and bringing another championship to the team. Many have been looking for Davis to take over as the team’s true leader, but LeBron believes he is already the face of the franchise.
James called Davis the face of the Lakers in a recent interview, adding that he believes the big man’s name deserves to be named alongside other Lakers greats whose jerseys hang in the rafters.
