Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reeves has made a name for himself since he joined the team. He went undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2021, then quickly signed a two-way deal with Los Angeles before breaking into the club’s standard lineup before the season began. In the eyes of many, he is now the third-best player on the team.
Recently, Reeves appeared in lowe post ESPN basketball insider Zach Lowe’s podcast gives an in-depth look at his on-court relationship with star LeBron James.
“There wasn’t any real dialogue or anything off the field,” Reeves said. “I always knew, from day one, that we connected on an IQ level and just thought about the game differently than everyone else.”

James likely sees Reeves’ drive to continue working on his craft and respects him for it. Reeves does all the little things on the court, and a player like James can change everything.
The two have had great chemistry since Reeves first joined the Lakers, and it’s only grown since then. Especially with their playoff battle last year, things are only going to get stronger on the court.
“But the thing that stood out to me — it was in the playoffs, it was Game 1 against Memphis — was when I had to really play four quarters. I struggled in the first half, and I Thought I was 2-for-7 in the half and then got going in the fourth quarter. I remember, I think I hit two buckets in a row and somebody, I think (Desmond) Bane was probably in A 3-pointer went off the right side and it came off and I don’t know if DeLorean (D’Angelo Russell) got the rebound or who or Vando (Jared Vanderbilt) got the rebound. But I was on the left side, and I just went and ran. They passed the ball to LeBron, and then – I think it was before I made the three – as I ran down the court, I heard LeBron say I yelled, “AR, come back! ” He just threw the ball to me. I was like, “Oh—”

Reeves took over in the first game of the playoffs, a sign that he was ready. This was a special event, and James may have known he was born for the playoffs.
James is all about winning, and so is Reeves. They don’t care how their team wins as long as they are the winner at the end of the game.
“Because he knows me, I don’t care if I score, if I can play for other people. “He knows I just want to win.”
By Austin Reaves on The Lowe Podcast
Both of their mindsets will help each other and make everything easier. As the Lakers make another push for the playoffs, they will be looking to continue their relationship this season. Los Angeles looks to be a championship contender, so as long as they stay healthy, the potential is there.
