Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James reached another milestone in his storied career on Tuesday night when he became the first player in National Basketball Association (NBA) history to score 39,000 career points.
In the first quarter of the Lakers’ 131-99 home victory over the Utah Jazz, James made a three-pointer in the first quarter, creating Crypto.com Arena’s scoring history.
James, who previously broke the all-time record of 38,387 held by Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in February, is in uncharted territory. His current scoring pace suggests he’s on track to reach 40,000 points later this season, according to the NBA.
“I got congratulations from my teammates and coaches, but I haven’t had a chance to really understand what it means,” James said after the game, according to the NBA.
“There’s been a lot of great players in this league since the beginning, and a lot of great scorers. To be able to do the first thing in anything, I think that’s always cool. It’s a crazy time, it’s definitely.”
With the same barrel, “The King” also achieved another landmark achievement. James made his 2,291st three-pointer, surpassing Vince Carter and moving into seventh place in the league. History list.
The 21-year-old veteran hit two more three-pointers that night and had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists as the Lakers easily won the final group match of the NBA new season championship.

Given the growing list of history the 38-year-old has made, it’s perhaps fortuitous that it’s all being documented in one place now.
LeBron James’ Home Court, a museum dedicated to James and his milestones, will open on November 25 in the Ohio native’s hometown of Akron.
The museum will offer a “multimedia experience” featuring items and exhibits from his childhood, high school basketball career and NBA career, the NBA said.
Items on display include the famous all-white suit James wore on NBA Draft Day in 2003, as well as an original backboard and basket from St. Vincent-St. Marie High School, where he became arguably the most highly anticipated prospect in the history of the sport.
“My dream has always been to put Akron on the map, so having a place in my hometown where I can share my journey with fans from around the world means a lot to me,” James said. “I’ve held on to a lot of stuff over the years, and I always knew there would be a time and place to get it out.”
