LeBron James’ ex-teammate shuns $2.53 trillion fortune to invest $44 million of his own

LeBron James’ former teammate Matthew Dellavedova now works in the Bitcoin space. The former NBA champion and Olympic bronze medalist recently joined Bitcoin exchange Swan Bitcoin as its vice president of business development. The Australian’s current net worth is reportedly $44 million.

Matthew, nicknamed “Delly” by his teammates, has been investing and consulting since 2017. After taking up the role of Swan, he said in a statement:

“I’m excited to join Swan to help spread the word, especially within the sporting community and in Australia, where I still play professional basketball.”

Dailey also recently worked with his alma mater, St. Mary’s men’s basketball program. During this time, he has been educating athletes about Bitcoin. This is especially important given recent changes to name, image and likeness (NIL) rules, which have created new possibilities for college athletes.

In a recent interview with The Australian Financial Review’s Tom Richardson, he expressed his disdain for the U.S. government’s use of Bitcoin, saying:

“…You can’t print food, you can’t print energy, but the U.S. government is printing money to fund its fiscal deficit and pay interest on $1.6 trillion of debt, and prices are rising.”

Daly also emphasized the superiority of Bitcoin, saying that he prefers Bitcoin to gold or property:

“So, yes, I see Bitcoin as a store of value and a hedge against inflation. I own property and follow gold – I mean, Sovereign Hill Ballarat (the goldfields) is where I grew up place is 50 minutes away – but Bitcoin is superior.”

LeBron James tries to educate kids about Bitcoin

In an effort to educate the younger generation about cryptocurrencies, the Lakers superstar has partnered with crypto.com. Through this partnership, the James and LeBron James Family Foundation is launching a series of educational and career training programs on Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and related technologies.

LeBron James’ 2022 partnership with crypto.com benefits students at the LeBron James “I Promise” School.

The I Promise program provides resources to help more than 1,600 students and their families succeed in school and beyond. After the details of the partnership agreement were confirmed, the Lakers superstar said in a statement:

“Blockchain technology is revolutionizing our economy, the world of sports and entertainment, the arts, and the way we engage with each other. I want to make sure communities like mine don’t get left behind.”

Currently, LeBron James is preparing for the 2023 NBA season, and the Lakers believe they have a chance to win it all.
