While several teams are in contention for the playoffs, the talk of the weekend centered around Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas. The 34-year-old veteran infielder’s defensive performance in front of a studio microphone drew attention on social media.
During Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, Rojas was caught on a microphone in the top of the second inning. While discussing with the broadcast crew, San Francisco Giants hitter Thairo Estrada hit a ground ball to shortstop Rojas, who threw a routine pitch to first base.
“That’s what I call a heads-up game. Have a regular major league game end on short notice, get the guy out on the first one, continue to commentate on national television while you’re playing, have fun, Be yourself. That’s who #MiguelRojas is. @Dodgers @MLB” – @pjdaly7
When Estrada’s grounder was passed to Rojas, the Dodger shortstop apologized to the broadcast team, saying he needed to finish the game quickly before he could continue talking.
Miguel Rojas’ performance catches the attention of basketball superstar LeBron James
Rojas’ casual defensive approach and polite demeanor sent baseball social media into a tailspin. However, the play also caught the attention of one of the greatest athletes of all time, LeBron James.

“That’s awesome. Probably have to add that to about a quarter of the way through one of my games this year.”
Major League Baseball continues to use live microphones during games, allowing fans to not only get closer to their favorite players, but also get a glimpse of the game they love. With live interviews with the likes of Freddie Freeman and Joey Votto, fans are closer to the action than ever before.
